SOSea (www.socialoutreachseattle.com) has teamed up with Proud Out and Wonderful (P.O.W. https://www.facebook.com/proudoutwonderful), the Queer Youth Group (ages 13-21) in Burien, WA., for this first event.
***IMPORTANT***If you are a member of a junior high, high school or college GSA, please SHARE this information. We really would like for this program to reach every youth/young adult possible. So INVITE friends to this.
Light refreshments and beverages will be provided.
There is a suggested $5 or more donation at the door. Please consider donating. NO YOUTH WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS.
ABOUT REAL TALK
Social Outreach Seattle’s (SOSea) mentoring program was implemented in June of 2013 for the sheer purpose of providing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and allied (LGBTQA) youth and young adults an opportunity to informally connect with mentors through monthly community forums. Mentees will receive guidance and information from mentors on particular issues that can help them make better decisions in life. Mentors will receive satisfaction knowing that they’ve made a positive difference in the world just by the simple act of sharing their own stories and opening up their schedule for “real talk.” The result: inspired and activated individuals who create positive change in their social world and then, hopefully, will go on to impact others in a meaningful way.
Each month, SOSea will host a community forum series on topics that are important to the youth community. Some of the topics up for discussion include coming out as LGBTQ or in support of LGBTQ equality, bullying, transgender issues, self-esteem, loneliness, jobs/careers, and dating & relationships.
We will invite experts and community leaders to serve as panelists on these topics. They have experience dealing with these issues first hand, and they can share their wisdom on how they dealt with these challenges. LGBTQ youth and young adults can interact with these adult mentors during the forum, and they can connect with the adult mentors after the forum through the organizations they represent to receiving further mentorship and guidance.
