+++ THEME OF THE MONTH: YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US! +++
Welcome back, faggots! Coming off last month's victory over the Grindr Zombie, we wanted to draw attention to the whole bitchy and competitive thing that happens so often with guys in gay bars. Ever been in a gay bar (we won't name any specifics here in Seattle) and felt like the guys were judging you or thought they were better than you? Ever been too afraid to approach a stranger because they might think you're not hot enough to talk to? ...
Ever sat in the corner for a good half hour because nobody would talk to you? Us too, and we think it sucks.
We're gonna be taking on the shitty way that gay men can sometimes act in the nightlife scene the best way we know how: by making fun of it. And what better way to do this than to draw inspiration from a movie that so many of us fags love and adore, Mean Girls? We feel that this movie perfectly captures the tendency for gay bar interaction to mimic a high school popularity contest. So come out and help us take a big old piss on "Mean Gay" behavior!
DRESS CODE: Bitchy Scene Queen. We all know them. It's your turn to feel what it's like to be in their distressed Diesel jeans and muscle tank tops.
+++ GUEST DJ ALMOND BROWN +++
ALMOND BROWN has been leveling up his skills in rooms large and small and made his name on the national scene. As former resident DJ of Q Rapture Saturdays and frequent headliner of parties as diverse as Flammable and Quiver at Rebar, Train Car House Party, Red Dress Party, the Bump, Soft Option at the Monkey Loft, and Proper at Electric Tea Garden, Almond has shown his affinity for big room sounds as well as deep sexy house that makes you want to lose your inhibitions. He has also kept busy producing and remixing tracks for the likes of Inaya Day, John LePage, Paul Goodyear, Sudad G and the Village People, as well as co-hosting "Now Serving," Seattle's premier internet radio talk show about dance music, culture, politics and the art of not giving a fuck.
+++ RESIDENT DJ PAVONE +++
DEREK PAVONE has been making asses shake up and down the West Coast for nearly a decade. While he has been known primarily as a disco DJ, AREA 2181 will see him stepping away from his classic sound and into the darker corners of house, acid and techno.
++++++ AREA 2181 ++++++
Every third Saturday Lavender Underground presents AREA 2181, a cutting-edge dance party created for gay guys from ALL walks of life. We’re breaking down the barriers that divide the gay nightlife scene and bringing boys and men together in one big celebration, where we can rediscover our similarities instead of emphasizing our differences. We want to show guys looking to experience gay nightlife that they have other options besides getting gawked at by bachelorette parties, playing around with their iPhones, or feeling judged and insecure. And this ain't just a party where you get into your skivvies and call it a day. The theme will change every month, giving you a brand new experience each time – new attractions, new costumes, new shot specials every month. So come get faggoty, ‘cause this is YOUR party.
