Celebrating our 36th birthday, Central Co-op presents a community screening of Food For Change! This feature-length documentary film tells the story of the cooperative movement in the U.S. through interviews, rare archival footage, and commentary by the filmmaker and social historians. This is the first film to examine the historical importance of food co-ops, their pioneering quest for organic foods, and their current efforts to create regional food systems. The film shows how co-ops strengthen communities where they are located, enhancing local economies and food security. The screening will be followed by a discussion about the role that consumer cooperatives can play in shaping the economy of the Pacific Northwest. The discussion will be moderated by Central’s General Manager Dan Arnett and will include the filmmaker, Steve Alves, and other cooperative experts: • David J. Thompson from the Twin Pines Foundation for Cooperative Development • Art Sherwood, the David Cole Professor of Entrepreneurship at the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University (and member of CDS Consulting) • Karen Zimbelman, the Development Director at the National Cooperative Grocers Association --------------- Tickets: $5 --------------- Space is limited!
