Myth & Magic Masquerade Ball Costume Contest FAQ {21+}

This contest takes place during the Myth & Magic Masquerade Ball, which is a 21+ event. Advance tickets to the Ball are now sold out. Additional tickets may be released to the rush line after doors open first-come, first-served. Questions? Please call our box office at 206-770-2702 during museum hours. 2016 MYTH AND MAGIC MASQUERADE BALL COSTUME CONTEST FAQ How do I enter the Contest? You must be present* at EMP Museum’s Myth and Magic Masquerade Ball on Saturday, July 9, 2016. *if you're volunteering at the Ball, or we've hired you in some capacity for the Ball, you are not eligible to enter. Sorry! Where do I enter? To enter, register at the table near the entrance of Sky Church from 9pm to 10pm. Our judges will select 16 finalists from everyone who registers (8 per category). What are the judging categories? To ensure that entrants can be judged fairly, we set up two categories based on different costumer levels. Registrants may only enter one of the following: Most Fantastical Costume If you consider yourself an entry level costumer and your costume includes some or all purchased pieces, you can register in this category. Most Masterful Creation If you consider yourself a master costumer and your costume is at least 50% crafted, you can register in this category. What are the prizes? There will be a grand prize and a runner-up prize for each of the two categories, which will contain magical Fantasy-themed merch + EMP passes and swag. What time is the actual contest? Contest finalists must be present in Sky Church by 11:20pm. Our royal herald will call each of the 16 finalists up to the stage to show off their costumes at 11:30pm. Winners will be announced shortly after all Finalists are seen! Who are the judges? Our expert panel of judges consists of: • Jade Cheung, Arctic Phoenix Studios • Thomas Sergeni, Rawrbomb • Marie Katherine Turner, Angry Pixie Design Do you allow group entries? At this time we’re only accepting single entries. Is there a weapons and costume policy at EMP? Yes! The policy is: • Please remove face masks prior to entering gallery spaces • Photo identification may be required for guests with face concealing paint, prosthetics, or masks • No functional weapons are allowed at EMP. Simulated or costume weapons are subject to inspection and approval by security prior to entry and must be in compliance with the following: • All costume weapons must be inspected at the security station located at the event’s entrance • All costume weapons must conform to state and federal law • Projectile costume weapons must be rendered inoperable • Costume swords must be tied to the worn costume in such a way that they cannot be drawn • Costume weapons will be tagged after inspection by security, and wearers will be given a wristband designating that the weapon has been approved • Any individual found in the building without a tagged costume weapon will be escorted to the security station where their weapon will be inspected • Individuals not willing to have their costume weapon(s) inspected or tagged, or are not willing to comply with the above, should not bring a costume weapon onto EMP premises This contest takes place during the Myth & Magic Masquerade Ball, which is a 21+ event.
