Clinton is the town from which Assata Shakur escaped prison, and she, like other black liberation activists, called this place Up South. On July 3, 1867, a South Carolina town flooded for a month, only stopping when the townspeople released a mysterious mermaid from a local doctor’s lab. What if shifts in the atmosphere were affected by the repression of crucial parts of ourselves? Experimenting with ballet, character studies, folk magic, and (ir)reverent a capella, Neve reimagines their hometown experience, and stages a hope that integrating our demons and healing ourselves could also heal our environment. ------------------------------------------- Accessibility Info: The Calamus Auditorium at Gay City is ADA accessible, has two single-stall all-gender restrooms, and is a fragrance-free space.
