FALSE WITNESS is an audio visual identity designed by artist Marco Gomez, an original founding member of the American artist collective, KUNQ. FALSE WITNESS is an open format project that incorporates elements of DJing, video sculpture and sound installation. Soundscape designs and music found within individual performances revolve around themes that speak to the urban experience, particularly in states of trauma or heightened states of consciousness.
FALSE WITNESS has performed and debuted work internationally at such institutions as MoMA PS1, the 2013 Venice Biennale, and the Frieze Art Fair in London. He has collaborated with various artists like Venus X, The House of LaDosha, and Juliana Huxtable, along with those from the KUNQ collective such as Rizzla (Fade to Mind), D’hana Perry, and Yulan Grant. FALSE WITNESS has been featured and mentioned in such media outlets as Spin Magazine, Resident Advisor, Red Bull Music Academy, Interview Magazine, and Fact Magazine, among others.
SHYBOI (Yulan Grant) is a Jamaican born, New York based multidisciplinary artist. SHYBOI is the moniker she uses to cause sonic disruption. As a creative positioned between Caribbean and American culture, she uses sound to interrogate ideas of identity, notions of power, perceived histories and the entanglements that happens within these topics. She is also member of the artist collective #KUNQ whose ethos is centered around the production of multidimensional work through sound, visual and performance art while expanding the discourse surrounding the subcultures and genres that have become diluted or obscured in the name of hybridity.
Accountability // DARQNESS is intended as a safer space centering queer and trans people of color. Non-QTPOC are welcome, but asked to remember that they are guests in a QTPOC space. Your racism, anti-blackness, anti-indiginity, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, ableism, femmephobia, fatphobia, etc. etc. etc. are not welcome.
Accessibility // There are ten steps to get into the space, divided into sets of 4 and 6. There are 15 stairs up the the restroom and chillout area. It's not a scent-free space but attendees are encouraged not to use scented products. We apologize for any accessibility challenges posed and strive to have more accessible spaces in the future.
Transportation // The Living Ro-Om Culture is accessible by buses 2, 3, 8, 48 and Night Owl 84. Street parking is available.
